Frank Newell

Team Leader – Environment Agency, Flood and Coastal Risk Management

Frank has over 20 years of experience working in the field of flood and coastal risk management and currently leads the Partnership and Strategic Overview team at the Environment Agency covering Cornwall, Isles of Scilly, Plymouth and West Devon.  Supporting communities during and after flood events including Boscastle in 2004, coastal flooding of 2014 and Coverack in 2017 provides real world understanding of the risks and provides motivation to better manage risks to communities for future flood events.  With a background in geography and a Masters degree in Marine Engineering Frank has a detailed understanding of flood risk modelling and mapping.  Working in partnership with other risk management authorities has ensured the avoidance of inappropriate development in flood risk areas together with developing and funding projects to increase the resilience of existing development at risk of fluvial, coastal and surface water flooding.
