Martyn Hann

Martyn is an Associate Professor of Coastal and Offshore Renewable Energy Engineering at the University of Plymouth.

He has 10+ years’ experience of physical and numerical modelling of various offshore renewable energy devices and floating bodies. Martyn is involved with a number of major Renewable Energy projects including the Supergen-ORE Hub, a £9 Million EPSRC funded project connecting academia, industry, policymakers and the public on the innovation of offshore wind, wave and tidal energy. As Principal Investigator on the Flex-Fund project Martyn is working on ‘Novel approaches for physical model testing of floating wind turbine platforms’, ‘Extreme Loading on FOWT under Complex Environmental Conditions’ and a ‘UK Floating Offshore Wind Turbine Test Facility’.  Martyn is also Co-Investigator on the ERDF funded ‘Cornwall FLOW Accelerator’ project, helping to accelerate the growth of floating offshore wind in Cornish Offshore waters.

Martyn led on the InnovateUK Inter project at Plymouth, developing a floating tidal energy platform, and has been involved in several projects investigating the development and physical testing of wave energy converters, and examining the use of design waves to predict extreme loads in storms. His work on this project included physical measurements of extreme wave interactions with floating structures, the first research project conducted in Plymouth’s COAST laboratory.
