Katharine S. Willis
Dr Katharine S. Willis is a Professor in Smart Cities and Communities for the School of Art, Design and Architecture at University of Plymouth. An Architect by training, her research expertise includes smart cities, smart villages, digital placemaking and the role of space and place. She is co-author with Alex Aurigi of two key Routledge volumes: Digital and Smart Cities and the Routledge Companion to Smart Cities and has published over fifty publications in the field. Her current research is funded through a number of high-profile grants and explores the application of technologies such as Augmented Reality (AR), Internet of Things (IoT), wearables and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for engagement and design of the built environment. She is programme lead for the new MA in Smart Urban Futures; an innovative Master’s programme to train future leaders in the design of smart cities.
